Campbell River Single-Family Homes FAQ

How has recent zoning changed the rules for suites and carriage houses in Campbell River?

In June 2024, Campbell River adopted the new R-I Residential Infill zone to align with provincial housing legislation. This change folded many older single-family zones into one, allowing up to three units on lots under 280 square metres, and up to four units on larger lots within the urban containment boundary. This means buyers have far more flexibility to legally incorporate a secondary suite, duplex, or detached carriage house, referred to by the city as a "rear residential building", on a standard city lot.
